FHM Consulting, LLC - President Fernanda Meier:

Fernanda Meier is the President of FHM Consulting, LLC, and the Project Manager for The Scholarship Academy. Previously, Fernanda was the Director of Educational Partnerships for the Southeast Region at Kaplan K12 Learning Services. 

Fernanda has been teaching and tutoring for more than 10 years. Her experience began while she was in college, and eventually transitioned into ESL and SAT instruction with Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions. She attended the University of Wisconsin at Madison, graduating with a double major in International Relations and Latin American Studies. Fernanda was born in Accra, Ghana and has lived in Georgia, Florida and Wisconsin since moving to the United States. During her undergraduate studies, Fernanda spent one year in Ecuador studying linguistics and the African Diaspora in Latin America- Fernanda returned to the US and began work as a Child Abuse Investigator and Social Services Case Manager. 

After her work with the State of Florida, she took on her role as Center Director for SCORE! Education Centers (a subsidiary of Kaplan, Inc.) for two years. During this time, Fernanda began teaching ESL courses for children and adults, and served as an instructor for Kaplan’s English Programs. In January of 2009, Fernanda joined the Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions team as the PreCollege Programs Director, and was then promoted to Director of Educational Partnerships at Kaplan K12 in May of 2010.

Fernanda has also been a co-host on AtlantaMusicRadio.com, an internet-based talk radio show about everything music and community in Metro Atlanta.

Specialties

Ms. Meier is Spanish/English bilingual, and an expert in education consulting, sales & management with an emphasis on instruction and college preparation programs for students in K-12th grade.

At a Financial Aid Saturday you get:

  • Free, one-on-one help for high school seniors and their parents in filing your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Georgia Student Financial Aid Application (GSFAPPS)
  • Questions answered by college financial aid experts from Atlanta area colleges & universities
  • Assistance with scholarship applications
  • Assistance in filing income tax returns at select event sites to expedite your financial aid filing*

Financial Aid Saturdays are FREE and open to the public. Be sure to spread the word to students and families who may benefit from these services.

*Free income tax preparation services provided by the Atlanta Prosperity Campaign VITA Tax Program at select sites to help expedite the college financial aid application process.

 

Bring the following items for students, parent/guardians if applicable to you:

  • PIN number for FAFSA application
  • List of 10 colleges and/or universities the student is interested in attending
  • Student’s driver’s license number
  • Alien registration card, if the student is a legal permanent resident
  • Social Security Numbers
  • W-2 Forms and other records of money earned in 2011
  • 2011 Federal Income Tax Return
  • 2011 untaxed income records (Example: public assistance)
  • 2011 bank statements
  • 2011 business and mortgage info and other investment records

Here are the FACTS:

  • Filing for federal and state aid can help you and your family pay for college!
  • Submission of financial aid forms is the only way for students to become eligible for most scholar-ships, grants, work-study, and other types financial aid.
  • Most colleges require financial aid forms be completed before they will pay out grants, scholar-ships, work-study, loans, or other types of federal, state, or institutional aid.
  • According to the College Board, more than $154 billion in financial aid was awarded to undergraduate students in 2010-2011 with most students qualifying for some aid.
  • The 2011 FAS pilot assisted 80 students in obtaining a total up to a maximum of $440,000 in Pell Grants for their first year of higher education!  The maximum Pell Grant was $5,500!
  • Every year eligible students who think they might not qualify miss out on aid by not applying. Don’t make that mistake! Apply even if you think you’re not eligible.
